Karl Loren & Jean Ross -- Caribbean Trip -- December 2004

After Jean's travails with cancer, during most of 2004, and my second hip replacement, we decided that it was time in our older years, to splurge on a Caribbean vacation.   Also, today, October 27, 2004, is the day Jean won the final and ultimate victory over cancer -- the complete report is HERE.

We leave Los Angeles on December 14th, flying directly to the Bahamas, the Atlantis Hotel.  Perhaps you have seen ads for it on TV.  It is an adventure, indeed.  We'll be in a time-share condo there, large and beautiful, for four nights.  My son, Garth, will join us for the time there.  This is the resort that features the "water slide" that drops down 60 feet -- should be gentle enough for an old guy with a newly replaced hip joint!

The Atlantis is on Paradise Island and is famous for its many fine restaurants, including several where the entire wall area, nassau.jpg (11992 bytes) the complete circumference of the room, is glass windows looking out into the ocean -- with fish.  Thus, you are sitting at dinner while appearing to be, and you are, underwater, looking out at the lighted coral and fish.

OneBahamas hotels - Atlantis- Paradise Island Royal Towers of these restaurants is the Café at the Great Hall of Waters - Linen service against glass-wall backdrop displaying marine life in Ruins Lagoon. Three-story vaulted ceiling. American breakfasts. Lunch choices such as Ahi burger, Atlantic swordfish club sandwich. Dinner choices such as Caribbean quesadillas, veal chop with melted spinach. English afternoon tea, including Caribbean iced teas. Pianist at night.

Then we fly to St. Thomas, take a ferry to St. Johns, and stay at the Westin Resort for eight nights -- snorkeling and sunning.  Our room is actually a time-share villa with the master bedroom, a full kitchen, dining area, living room, Jacuzzi, balcony, and view of the water.

This is a resort famous for weddings and special celebrations. St. John, U.S.V.I., is an island of pure privacy and exceptional natural beauty. With its aqua-blue waters, pure-white-sand beaches, lush green hillsides, and purple-hued sunsets, rest assured your wedding album will be filled with many colorful memories. Most important, when you host your wedding at The Westin Resort & Villas, St. John, you and your guests will be treated to renowned service, gourmet catering, endless activities, and luxurious amenities that have become synonymous with the Westin name.

We move out of that fancy place on the 24th, and enjoy Christmas at the St. Thomas Marriott, three days there before we board one of the Windjammer cruises among the islands -- setting sail on December 27th, and returning to St. Thomas on the first of January.  Our sailing vessel is a four-masted schooner very similar to the one shown below.

This is one of the famous "barefoot" sailing cruises -- our cabin is small, with bunk beds.  We could, if we wanted, take a hand to hauling the sails and steering the ship -- but I suspect we'll be just taking it easy.

We fly immediately to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and stay in a resort hotel (below) for five nights before returning to Los Angeles on January 6, 2005.

Windjammer fleetAll during this time my daughter Maia and Tracye (the new ED while Maia gets more training) will be minding the store.  Our sales have been spectacularly high in October and November -- perhaps we should go to the Caribbean for longer!

We finish this grand tour by going to Puerto Rico and staying for about a week in the Westin Rio Mar.  Many decades ago I, Karl Loren, lived for some years in Puerto Rico, so the place has many fond memories for me.  Jean and I visited it for a week a few years ago -- staying at a nice resort near an old fishing village I had gone to often, years before, to rent a fishing boat for the day and sail among the islands nearby.

Pool areas of the Westin Rio Mar Beach Hotel

Over 400 years of rich history and a vibrant blend of cultures are yours to discover. Delight in the breathtaking beauty of The Westin Rio Mar Beach Golf Resort & Spa and its captivating 500-acres on one-mile of secluded tropical beach, adjacent to the Caribbean National Rain Forest of El Yunque.

We'll then be doing the "Hubbard Purification Program" since both Jean and I have had a lot of drugs and medicines in the past year -- so we get rid of those and do our final recuperation.

We'll be back, ready for a new future.

    Karl Loren & Jean Ross -- Alaska Cruise -- August 2, 2003

Alaska CruisesKarl Loren and Jean Ross are planning a vacation cruise to Alaska for the second day of August 2003.  We now have the confirmed tickets in our hands leaving Los Angeles on August 1st, and stay overnight in Vancouver -- then leave on the cruise departure on August 2nd.

Here is ONE web site where you can get information:

    http://www.princess.com/home.jsp

I found that the company web site was interesting, but generally you would "book" your cruise through any travel agency, particularly like the Auto Club Travel office, or any travel agency that handles "cruises."  If they book cruises of any kind, they will probably know how to make a reservation for you for one of the Princess Cruises to Alaska.

We have now fully paid for that whole trip.

There are many "land excursions" along the cruise.  I will definitely be going on the white water rafting side trip, Jean and I will take the dog sled ride -- and pick other side trips also.  As of today, March 24, 2003, I've just come from the orthopedic surgeon who approved me for a hip replacement -- he says that I would be better off doing my white-water-rafting BEFORE hip replacement so that comes in September.  I look forward to what will probably be my last white-water rafting experience during this cruise.

Jean gets a complete knee replacement in June 2003, and she has no interest in the rafting fun.

Many of our friends have taken this cruise and speak so highly of it that we are planning that cruise.

I am certainly not selling tickets, but we have many friends who have told us that if we go on such a cruise they would also very much like to go on the same cruise.

We are not offering any particular or special relationship to YOU, but if you would like to go on a cruise where Karl and Jean are, you would be welcome to schedule the same dates.

Details of what we finally select will be published here, from time to time. My very good friend, Mr. Owen L. Charles, and his wife, and Jean and I, have reserved two cabins on the "Aloha" deck of the Coral Princess.  We have cabins 418 and 420.

Our cruise starts in Vancouver, takes 7 days to travel north to Alaska.  The Charles have already been on this cruise, so will not continue with us on the "land tour" part.  Jean and I leave the ship and continue for five more days on the land tour portion of our total cruise.  We then leave from Alaska, by air back to Los Angeles on August 13, 2003.

I hope to have some number of family and personal friends with us.

We would be pleased to have Vibrant Life customers or just browsers to my 22,000 pages go on the cruise.  I don't know how many might be interested.  I am not promoting this as a cruise where you will be able to have many hours of consultation with Karl Loren, but I certainly do enjoy talking to my friends, and there are thousands of those friends -- customers, visitors to my web sites, family and personal friends.

So, if you are interested in joining us on this cruise, you are cordially invited to do so.  You can let me know?  Or don't.  Just plan to take the cruise on the same departure date -- August 2, 2003 and say hello.

Details will be published on this page.

You can always send a message to Karl Loren to find out what the current status of the plans is.

We aid not buy our tickets from the below company, but there is information here about this cruise.

Let Alaska Tour and Travel be your one stop source for reservations and information on Alaska cruises, land packages and complete Alaska cruise tour vacations.

Alaska cruises have become one of the most popular ways visit Alaska. Cruises feature glaciers, wildlife, great food, entertainment, interesting ports of call and fascinating tours along way… and you only have to unpack once! There are a number of different cruise itineraries in Alaska offered by most of the major lines. We highly recommend the Gulf of Alaska cruise itinerary offered by Princess Cruises. These week long cruises travel between Seward and Vancouver, BC with either a northbound or southbound itinerary. Highlights include Glacier Bay National Park, College Fjord in Prince William Sound, and interesting port towns like Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. Shore excursions are available in each port, from historic railroad trips to landing on a glacier by helicopter. Princess Cruises offers the newest ships in this Alaska market featuring the Sun Princess, Star Princess, Ocean Princess and Dawn Princess. These fabulous ships are often called "cities on the water", with features like numerous restaurants, lounges, Broadway style entertainment, casinos, health clubs, movie theaters, libraries, and more. Be sure to visit our Alaska cruises page for a compete list of Princess Alaska cruises available.

Don't go home from your Alaska cruise without seeing the land side of our great state. After your week on an Alaska cruise, we recommend spending another five to seven days exploring Alaska by land. Alaska land tours can be arranged that start in Anchorage or Fairbanks and end in Seward for a southbound Gulf of Alaska cruise, or the reverse for a northbound cruise. Most of the land tour available on our vacation packages page can be easily customized as a pre or post land tour to "hook up" with your Alaska cruises. Give us a call for more details.
