The beer's yeast cure


History

Living cells of beer's yeast in a cellular fluid form (saccharomyces cerevisiae or faex medicinalis (1)) is a beneficial drug which has been administrered from time immemorial.  It was found with the Sumerians, the Babylonians and the Egyptians.

Modern researchers only confirmed an ancient therapeutic drug when they revealed that living beer's yeast cells unmistakably procure the richest source for human metabolic processes.

In 1908/1910, a German engineer in beer industry had already observed a weak light sent out by beer's yeast in the dark.  He claimed that this was a sort of 'radiation' (radium ?) and began to experience with it.  He succeeded in 'lighting' photographs with beer's yeast in a dark room, by which he declared his 'radiation theory' proven (2).

Simultaneously, he observed a strikingly beneficial action of beer's yeast upon a small wound at his hand.  It was not until his own wife suffered breast cancer that our engineer, off his own bat, started to 'treat' his wife both internally and externally, with living beer's yeast cells, after which his wife, surprisingly, recovered.

A more scientific approach of beer's yeast therapeutic in cancer was undertaken in 1930 by the Italian Professor Doctor Gioconco PROTTI, head of the Research and Treatment Centre of Tumours in Busto Arsizio (I).  He discovered that beer's yeast selectively attacks and destroyes the morbid growth of cancer tissue.  His discovery of beer's yeast's selective oncolytic characteristics - about which he reported in Munich (3) - aroused considerable scientific interest and it was PROTTI's colla-borator, the German physician Professor Doctor GOTTSCHALK from Munich who pointed out that beer's yeast is capable of turning cell respiration of (pathological) fermentation into oxigen respiration.

In experiments with rats Doctor TRIEBEL (of the Klinik für Geschwulstkrankheiten Braunscheig) ascertained on the one hand, the extraordinary phenomenon that rats with cancer, as it were relying on their instinct, pounced exclusively on food rich on beer's yeast and, on the other hand, a prompt improvement of their condition.
The beer's yeast-treated rats survived 2 to 3 months longer than the untreated control group.  It might be interesting to add that at the beginning of the experiment, the rats had tumour masses weighing as much as, or even exceeding, their total body weight, and that in comparison with a life expectance of three years, 2 to 3 months represent a significant life extension.

Other experiments by JOCHLE (of the Main Laboratory of Schering AG, Berlin) were conducted on mice.  Even for the so-called incurable adenocarcinoma, JOCHLE could increase the survival time of mice with 30% by the intratumourous administration of beer's yeast (3).

In addition to its oncolytic action, beer's yeast seems to have a beneficial effect on irradiation therapy.

A 25 years' experience has taught us that simultaneous therapy by means of beer's yeast and radiation improved the general condition of beer's yeast-treated patients in an astonishing way compared to patients who only received radiation.  Beer's yeast stimultes e.g. appetite, sleep and intestine peristalsis.  It protects furthermore the mucuous membranes, which is especially important in throat and gullet cancers.  It is remarkable that beer's yeast-treated patients hardly ever suffer from inflammations of the mouth or have swallow problems.  It also inhibits the loss of hair.  Finally, it has proved very useful to start the beer's yeast therapy (1 litre per week) before starting with radiation.

Not only internal radiation damage is positively influenced by the beer's yeast cure.  Also hyperkeratoses, skin atrophies, formation of rhagades with infections, nail deformation and nail bed inflammations are avoided to a high degree by means of preliminary and simultaneous beer's yeast therapy.

Thus Professor Doctor RIES of the Bayerische Krebsgesellschaft (Bavarian Cancer Association) could establish in his radiation therapeutic department in Munich, that 'radium damage was improved in a substan-tial way, inflammations disappeared, as well as skin atrophies which were replaced by normal epithelium.  Furthermore, hyperkeratotically thickened skin became tender and smooth again.  Until today, none of the other conservative treatment methods has ever obtained such results".

In its written stipulations for cancer patients the Bavarian Cancer Association, consequently, advises to use beer's yeast preparations against the disease - in addition to other 'alternative' treatments such as metabolic active alimentation, vitamin and enzym therapy, regeneration of the bowels and mesenchyma activating organ preparations.  This wise policy coming from an official cancer association, proves once again that something may well be considered alternative and ergo taboo in one country, while it belongs to the admitted, and even recommended therapies in the other.  However, such a sober and true procedure of an official organ contrasts sharply with the majority of highly official cancer institutes who only seem to know and proclaim the Holy Trinity of 'opertion, irradiation and chemo(toxico)therapy', as the only efficacious cancer therapy.
 

Action

With regard to composition (cf. further), the cellular fluid beer's yeast preparation (METZ-PANAKTIV) under discussion, is a broadspectrum active agent; the action of its numerous components can be indicated.  Further investigation into the still unknown root of its action imposes itself.

First of all, beer's yeast contains a powerful antitoxic capacity thanks to its sulphurous substances.  Sulphurous components within the human body (as well as in the biological body) are always combined with protein complexes, and precisely this protein characteristic inactivates the sulphurous components quite easily by warmth, oxygen and dehy-dration.

Certain culture-related ways of life - and ours is certainly one of them - play havoc with these very sensitive sulphuric substances, the shortage of which will consequently slow down and injure the antitoxic action.  Beer's yeast corrects this by its high content (100 g. contains 0.12 g.) of the sulphurous glutathione which is long known for its antitoxic capacity, especially against infections.  Glutathione is a tripeptide consis- ting of glycocol, cystine and glumatic acid, and represents an oxidation-reduction system; or more precisely, it is a reversible proportion which transfers and combines H-ions in the metabolism of cells (5).  We have already emphasized that this function is of the utmost importance - espe- cially for cancer which actually blocks the normal cellular metabolism - for the organism and is considered as a source of energy in the intermediary metabolic system (5).

A second aspect of the anti-tumourous action of beer's yeast, according to Professor Doctor GOTTSCHALK of Munich, must be sought in its connective-tissue-stimulating characteristic.  He ascertained that when beer's yeast is administered, an 'explosion' of connective tissue takes place in the peritumourous area and that the newly formed connective tissue grows into the disintegrating tumour mass.

Furthermore, beer's yeast has revealed itself as an essential purifying agent for the liver.  This purification is caused by the B-group vitamin (which beer's yeast contains in large proportions) and by the lipotropic (protection of the liver) liver regenerating agents oric acid, choline and factor 3 with its selenium spore elements (6) and the functionally capable (apoenzym) proteins (7).

SCHWARZ (8) pioneered in the domain of factor 3 by distinguishing the syndrome of liver necrosis from that of liver cirrhosis, and further-more by pointing out that in addition to vitamin E and the sulphurous amino acids, cystine and cysteine, there is a third factor (hence Factor 3), which had to be much more important for the protection of the liver and nicrosis than the other two factors (9).

Initially, SCHRAUZER thought it was a new vitamin which was responsible for this and he succeeded in indicating the new substance in beer's yeast, namely pig's liver and pig's kidneys (10).

Unfortunately, in order to isolate this substance he has had to sacrifice 18 years and 160,000 laboratory rats.  He succeeded furthermore to obtain 1.3 mg of the substance out of one ton of pig's kidneys.  Later he established that 1/3 of Factor 3 consisted of selenium compounds (11).
