Processed Milk In The Diet Causes Gas

Processed milk has been virtually the ONLY milk available for use in the United States for many years. Even in the very few places that allowed natural milk to be sold, it is now off the market.  Most of the States in this Country have not had legal natural milk for decades.  The processed milk which is sold, and has been sold for many years, is not thought of as "processed milk," but just as "milk."  Thus, the fact that the health problems caused by this "new" milk (which is actually "processed milk") are not recognized as being new.  The old milk -- the natural milk -- that we all drank in this country 60 years ago? That milk never has caused the problems describe on this page.  So, health problems caused by drinking "milk," must be more carefully recognized as being caused by drinking processed milk, not natural milk.  There is hardly any way of describing the tremendous health benefit that would accrue to our nation if natural milk were again available -- so that those who drink it could demonstrate with their own, personal good health, how harmful these decades have been -- drinking processed milk.

Hippocrates (460-370 B.C.) was one of the first to realize what many now recognize—that cow’s milk can cause gastrointestinal distress.

[Karl Loren Note:  It would help those who criticize milk if they could establish that Hippocrates criticized milk since, most certainly, processed milk was non existent in the time of Hippocrates.  So, those who would not even want to admit that natural milk doesn't cause this problem, would be prone to look for, and possibly invent, some authoritative reference from several hundreds or thousands of years ago.  I have searched many Hippocrates references and not found any place where he is specific about the problems of drinking milk.  He makes many statements that would support a natural diet -- without processed foods of any sort.]  Click Here for Hippocrates quotes and references.

Now, growing numbers of health experts are starting to catch wind of the link between consumption of dairy products and excess gas in cheese and milk consumers. An estimated 30 million people in the U.S. suffer from lactose intolerance, a condition that can cause gas, nausea, cramps, bloating, and diarrhea.

Lactose intolerance has no gender or race barriers—adults and children, men and women, Caucasians and African Americans—people from all walks of life can suffer symptoms after consuming dairy products. In fact, the Journal of the American Dietetic Association reported in 1996 that 75 percent of the world’s population is lactose intolerant. In America alone, 70 percent of African and Native Americans, 95 percent of Asian Americans, 50 percent of Mexican Americans, and 15 to 20 percent of Caucasian Americans have difficulty in digesting lactose, which often causes all the symptoms mentioned above.

Untold numbers of people who haven’t been diagnosed as "lactose intolerant" routinely choose antacids for "dessert" after indulging in cheese pizzas or double-tall lattes. A better alternative would be to give the bottle the boot—and go for soy alternatives!
