This page introduces a book about "germanium" written by Dr. Sandra Goodman.  The book is, of course, copy written by Dr. Goodman.

At about the same time she wrote her book, I wrote my book about Germanium.  I had the added advantage over her in that I went to Japan for an extensive visit, actually went into the manufacturing facility making this germanium.

I then started importing germanium, called, technically, "bis-carboxyethyl germanium sesquioxide."  The process for making this substance was invented and patented in Japan and the US by Dr. Asai.

When "other" stuff was being made, in other places, NOT using the patented process, this other "stuff" started to be called "Ge 132." This label is NOT the name given to his germanium by Dr. Asai.  Rather, I believe this name was given to "it" by the largest importer in the US -- a man who I claimed was NOT buying legitimate germanium.  I believe he gave his "stuff" the name of "Ge 132" as a means of deceiving the public into thinking that he had germanium from Dr. Asai.

He did not.  By the time I had visited Japan I was very familiar with the patent situation, and I knew that ONLY ONE COMPANY in Japan was legally able to export germanium made under Dr. Asai's patent.  I was buying their germanium. That company was and is Tokai Sangyo, Japan.

They assured me that they were not selling anything to this one man who was selling "Ge 132."

When I publicized this information, I also exposed the fact that this man (a doctor) was selling stuff that was not authentic -- not from the patent holder.

He sued me for libel.  I have written elsewhere about this lawsuit.  The case was eventually settled out of court.

But, during this time the fake germanium was flooding into the US market at prices that were TOO low for the Tokai Sangyo company.  We figured that the fake germanium coming into the US was not any good, and not safe -- but it was cheap.

So, I refused to buy the fake stuff and Tokai wasn't interested in lowering its prices to match the cheap stuff.

So, for many years I had no supply of germanium.

In 2003 I started regular communications with Tokai Sangyo -- to clarify the situation and to buy THEIR germanium.  It took some time because I wanted to get their confirmation that they were not selling the process-patented germanium to anyone else -=- and that it would be safe and true for me to expose all the details I know about the fake germanium being sold in the US now -- called "Ge 132" and coming from either China or Taiwan.

I had a great deal of information about these sources, and will be publishing that information on these pages.

But, I started doing some research on the possible origin of "Ge 132."  I found ONE place where that term is used -- "Ge 132."  It was in the search engine link to the book by Dr. Goodman.

I believe that both Dr. Goodman and Betty Kayman have sold out their endorsement of fake germanium -- since they had written their books.

So, when I found that Dr. Goodman's book was a source for the term "Ge 132" I was not surprised.

I went to that web site -- found her entire book published on the web. This, according to www.google.com was supposed to be the source of the term "Ge 132."  I went all through her book and never found this phrase anywhere.  She had, apparently, used that term in some hidden (HTML) location so as to attract the search engines, but her book never originally had that term in it.  It appears to me that Dr. Goodman has ignored the truth about Dr. Asai's patent, and now helps one of the smuggled forms of fake germanium.  I'll be investigating that more, too.

Then, still looking through her book, I found that she did make reference to Dr. Asai's book, and I clicked on her link -- only to find that her link arrived at MY web site. That is certainly not illegal, but I do find it strange if she is referencing the legitimate source of real germanium, and then endorsing one of the fakes.

I'll have more published on these pages when I complete my research.

So, Sandra Goodman's book is reproduced on these pages.  I claim that I am making a "fair comment" as the copyright law allows -- when Dr. Goodman is apparently trying to imply that she has written about "Ge 132" in her book, when, in fact, she has not.  She does have her self-serving and deceptive reference to Ge 132 in her preface -- it was not there originally, of course.

You see the deception in Dr. Goodman's link reference -- she says that the Asai organization does not make any Ge 132 available for export.

This is true, but deceptive.

First, the  Asai Research Institute does NOT sell any of their product outside Japan.  Rather, Dr. Asai set up TWO license holders for his patent.  Asai Research Institute MAKES germanium and sells it ONLY within Japan, and ONLY for prescription use.

The other license holder was and is Tokai Sangyo.  They sell germanium inside Japan, for non prescription use, and they are also the only legally authorized company in Japan to export this germanium.

The fact that Dr. Goodman FAILS to mention Tokai Sangyo, and implies that there ONLY the one source of germanium (Asai Research Institute) in Japan allows her to mislead people into thinking that they cannot buy germanium from Japan and that only OTHER sources, offering "Ge 132" would be the companies she is obviously shilling for.  She hides the truth.

There are several people selling "Ge 132" but that label is not a registered trademark, does NOT mean that you are getting germanium produced under the Asai patent and I am convinced that Dr. Goodman is taking money for her deceptive web page description.

Here is the www.google.com link to her page:

Here is what Dr. Goodman says about "Ge 132."

Patent And Trademark Issues

The Asai organization does not make any Ge-132 available for export.

[Karl Note: This is true, but deceptive.  What is omitted here is that the Asai Research Institute DOES make germanium, does sell it in Japan, and does NOT sell it outside Japan because it has chosen to sell its product only as a prescription drug and does not have FDA approval in the US, but does in Japan.]

Therefore any Ge-132 used outside of the Asai Germanium Clinic is manufactured from other sources.

[Karl Note: This is true, but deceptive.  Also, since Ge-132 does not seem to be a trademarked name, at least in the US, this is a false claim by Dr. Goodman.  It is possible that Dr. Asai referred to "his" germanium as "Ge 132" but records of that are not in the US Trademark Office.

The full truth is that the Government of Japan, during this time, was reeling from international criticism about some of its chemical exports causing death.  The government made it illegal to export a whole range of products without government approval.  Asai did NOT ask for or get that approval.

The government set a limit of 1000 kg of germanium that could be exported and gave virtually all of that quota to Tokai Sangyo.  The other company was approved, but the amount was tiny.

It was Tokai Sangyo that DID get that approval.]

There are three patented processes for the manufacture of Ge-132 in Japan, all of which have expired in Japan.

[Karl Note: For one thing the term "Ge-132" is not a trademarked name in the US -- contrary to what Dr. Goodman claims.  It is a name that may be "used" by anyone, since it is not trademarked in the US.  The patents in Japan have apparently never used the term "Ge 132" as claimed by Dr. Goodman.  So, the basic claim, above, that Ge-132 has expired patents in Japan is false because there never were any in the first place. Dr. Goodman is deceiving the public by clever use of a term that has no legal meaning -- "Ge 132."

One of the early Japanese Asai patents on germanium was 59-811921 issued on April 25, 1984.

In my book about germanium I named another Japanese company, whose plant I visited during my trip to Japan.  This company had Japanese patents using a different process from the process invented by Dr. Asai.  I even know the Japanese patent numbers -- a rare bit of data.  I actually met and talked to the patent holder for this company.  I also visited the second company in Japan with a patent -- and spent much time with its President.]

However, there is still an extant American patent for the manufacture of Ge-132, which is also the trademarked name for the Asai form of Germanium sesquioxide.

[Karl Note: The information about the US patent existing is true, but the information about the trademarked name is false. Click here for THAT US patent, in full text.   Click here for the truth about trademarks on this matter.  (I have many of the US patents about "germanium" on this web site.)  Also, the term "Asai form" is a misleading term.

There is no trademark registered in the US for "Ge-132" or for "Ge 132."  There is, however, a trademark for "GE OXY-132" registered in the US, but it is registered in 1988, to a company I know well, as that company was used to supply the doctor who sued me for libel when I claimed he was NOT buying germanium from Japan, but from some questionable source he would never reveal.  At that time the only legal Japanese supplier, Tokai Sangyo, WAS NOT selling its germanium to this company -- Global Trading of San Francisco, the owners of the trademark "GE OXY-132."  (A second company was authorized to export, but never did, and the President confirmed to me that he never sold to Global.

Thus Dr. Goodman is misleading the public into thinking that there is no valid Japanese source for exported germanium, but that there is a US patent for "Ge 132" (false) and later she identifies some US sources as selling the "real" germanium (false).

Thus she has fed false information out to the public so that she can make the final false claim that the companies SHE recommends are (probably) the beneficiaries of the US patent.  This is false. The US Patent was issued in the name of Asai Research Institute -- and is on my web site in full.]

Therefore, any Germanium imported into the United States which uses the Asai process is infringing upon this patent (67).

[Karl Note: I have read and re-read my own Book, The Report On Germanium, second edition, published in 1987.  I do not find this statement, said to be by Karl Loren, in my own book.  It may be there, but as it is used here it is out of context and the quote is very misleading.  The statement is true, but the implication is that there is, therefore, NO legitimate source of germanium in Japan except Asai.  This is not true.  I name two other manufacturers of germanium, under patents different from the Asai patent.

The basic lie by Dr. Goodman is to deny the ONLY valid source for exports of germanium from Japan -- a company with which, it happens, I started doing business some 15 years ago.  The name Tokai Sangyo is fully referenced in my book.  I visited them and their factory.  I even video taped my visit to the factory.  I knew that they were selling germanium in the US because I was buying it!

The footnote reference above -- 67 -- is actually a reference to MY book about germanium.  Here is Dr. Goodman's actual footnote:

67.  Loren K. The Report on Germanium. Life Extension Educational Service. 1987.

Dr. Goodman has used my book and web pages as a resource to hide her deceptions.]

However, neither of the two suppliers of organic Germaniumin the UK, Global Marketing, which obtains its supplies from Sanyo, and Inpa, with its stock from Sanum-Kehlbeck, are in violation of this patent. The tradenames Ge Oxy-132 and Germanooxyd are both registered trademarks.

I have found that "Ge Oxy-132" is a registered trademark, but Gemanooxyd is NOT!
