Mt. Fuji Sanctuary of Light

Mt.Fuji stands majestic in the heartland of Japan. Rising 13,000 feet tall, her silhouette is graceful yet bold.

A sacred home of Gods and Goddesses, she is an ancient pyramid: a portal for cosmic beings who still frequent this sacred site. She is dear to the heart and soul of Japan - hi no moto no kumi - the Land of the Source of Light. She is a gateway through which Divine Love and Light flow to Planet Earth. According to legend, it is here that cosmic and angelic beings will meet humanity on earth.

Goddesses of Mt. Fuji

"The mountain that most represents Japan in the eyes of the world is, of course, Mount Fuji. No peak more beautifully embodies the spirit of a nation. The elegant simplicity of its lines, sweeping up into the graceful shape of an inverted fan painted with delicate patterns of pure white snow, symbolizes the quest for beauty and perfection that has shaped so much of Japanese culture, both secular and sacred. Suspended between heaven and earth, neither rock nor cloud, the volcano appears as a cone of crystallized sky, floating above a vast landscape of fields, villages, lakes and sea.... The very perfection of its form, startling in its incredible simplicity, suggests the mystery of the infinite."

Sogadera
(Soga Temple)

About 800 years ago, Minamoto-no Yoritomo held a "Fuji no makigari" ( a beat hunting session in the vicinity of Mt.Fuji) in this area. It was at that time that the Soga brothers' revenge took place. The brothers managed to kill Kudo Suketsune, their father's enemy, but both Juro, the elder brother and his younger brother, Goro, met with a tragic end. Juro was 22 years old and Goro 20. Those two young showing a lot of courage in returning their father's obligation showed whole heartedness in their fight against the Bakufu Shogunate's authority. Unfortunately the deed finished in tears. Around Sogadera Temple, the family temple of the Soga brothers, a thick growth of many-hundred years old miscanthus and pasania trees (all designated as the City's Natural Monuments) seem to pray for the repose of the two brothers' souls. ( A large scale mass is held in their memory every year on the 28th and 29th of may, their death anniversary.)
@
Sogahachimangu
(Sogahachiman Shrine)

At the time their father was killed by Suketsune, the brothers were respectively 5 and 3 years old. One day, the elder brother pointing at the sky remarked that wild geese flying in a flock overhead looked like a loving family, to which his younger brother answered by swearing that they would kill their father's enemy at any cost someday. It is said that Yoritomo built Sogahachimangu Shrine where stand the statues of the two brothers as infants. ( A large scale ceremony is held four times a year in memory of their deaths on the 28th of January, April, July and November.)

Mt. Fuji Sanctuary of Light
Home of the White Light Association - Byakko Shinko Kai

This article appeared in the April/May 2003 issue of Voice of the New Earth

Mt.Fuji stands majestic in the heartland of Japan. Rising 13,000 feet tall, her silhouette is graceful yet bold.
A sacred home of Gods and Goddesses, she is an ancient pyramid: a portal for cosmic beings who still frequent this sacred site. She is dear to the heart and soul of Japan - hi no moto no kumi - the Land of the Source of Light. She is a gateway through which Divine Love and Light flow to Planet Earth. According to legend, it is here that cosmic and angelic beings will meet humanity on earth.

Over five decades ago, voices calling for peace to prevail on earth started to resound at the foot of
this sacred mountain. From the only land on earth that experienced the atomic bomb comes a deep and
sincere wish for peace to prevail on earth. It has echoed throughout the land, across the seas and has now reached every continent on earth. The song of peace. The song of the universal love. May Peace Prevail On Earth.
It is now time to honor and acknowledge the work of thousands of our brothers and sisters who have continuously radiated forth this prayer for peace.

The Mt. Fuji Sanctuary, home of the prayer “May Peace Prevail On Earth” is located in the “plains of the morning mist” in Shizuoka Prefecture. It is truly a Sanctuary of Light: a sacred site dedicated to the awakening of all humanity on earth. The Sanctuary welcomes people from every background and tradition to join in prayers, ceremonies and rituals for the evolution of all creation on earth.

Continuous prayers ring forth from the prayer halls. In the Ceremonial field the flags of each nation flies high as prayers are offered from day to day for the awakening of every family member on earth. Larger monthly gatherings welcome thousands of people to invoke peace in the hearts of all peoples.

The yearly Mt. Fuji Ceremonies held in May are attended by close to 20,000 people who come to offer their vessels as divine instuments of Peace. It is a Clarion Call by the Higher Worlds, the Ascended Masters, Archangels, and Cosmic Beings to assemble under the Great Guidance of Divine Will. Mt. Fuji becomes a portal through which the Light of the Universal Source flows through to elevate the dimensions and frequencies of earth. A great pillar of light descends upon Mt. Fuji for the communion of heaven and earth. It is a gathering place of co-creation, healing and joy.
(see Mt. Fuji Photo Gallery)

Prayers for peace to prevail in every country on earth echoes throughout the prayer field...May peace prevail in Afghanistan....May Peace Prevail in Iraq...May all beings awaken to their divine essence....May peace prevail On Earth...Awaken, awaken, awaken to your divine essence. The Mt. Fuji Ceremonies are attended by the Guardians of each country. Our precious and sincere prayers are carried to every corner on earth by these angelic beings energetically raising and purifying the thought vibrations of each country - the cells of Mother Earth.
The energetic exchange, the spiritual elevation, the essence of pure love is experienced by all who tune into this Ceremonial gathering around the world.

During the Ceremonies, Mudras are also used to amplify and disperse the energy patterns and frequencies even more. Divinity mudras for the awakening of humanity and for the elevation of the Divine Self is performed not only during ceremonies but practiced on a daily basis. Divinity mudras are an invocation through breath, sound and movement. It is a cosmic sign language, a prayer in motion, a sacred meditation. It is a way to catch and integrate the infinite energies flowing from the Universal Source deep into our very being: a way to remembering the Light Beings that we truly are continuing God’s creation here on earth.
(see Divinity IN Universal Mudra)

Divinity mandalas are also written by individuals to further the work of this Sanctuary of Light.
Divinity Mandalas consist of 105 concentric circles inscribed by hand with sacred words invoking the divinity of humanity, words of infinite affirmations and gratitude to nature.... Humanity is Divine, I am a Divine Being,
infinite love, infinite light, thank you dear Water, thank you dear Mountains.... Work is in progress to
initiate 100,000 Divine Beings the world over to volunteer in writing these sacred mandalas to
assist in further refining the frequencies of individuals as well as the earth.
(see Mandala Project)

The work of the Mt.Fuji Sanctuary is multi-faceted aimed at elevating the consciousness of the human species. The Mt. Fuji Ceremonies help to decrystalize the negative thought forms and energy patterns of humanity so that the paradigm of infinite love, light and wisdom will once again manifest on earth . The Divinity mudras encourage all individuals to recognize their divine reality as well as the divine essence of all human kind. The written Mandalas become transmitting stations emitting infinite peace and healing to all beings.

At this time of great transition from material to spritual, every opportunity is taken by the Higher Worlds to use us as Divine Vessels of God. When we gather in sacred ceremony leaving aside our small self and our worldly problems to invoke the peace and divinity of all nations, of all human kind and of all creation on earth we can work constructively in cooperation with Beings in the Higher Realms to create true peace on earth.

The work of the Mt. Fuji Sanctuary will be introduced more and more to the world in the months and years to come. We look forward to joining in ceremonial gatherings everywhere to accelerate the awakening process of all human kind. Together we can lift the dimensional veil and ascend up the spiral of evolution. May Peace Peace Prevail On Earth

Humanity is Divine

"Lo! There towers the lofty peak of Fuji
From between Kai and wave-washed Suruga,
The clouds of heaven dare not cross it,
Nor the birds of the air soar above it.
The snows quench the burning fires,
The fires consume the falling snow.
It baffles the tongue, it cannot be named
It is a spirit mysterious."*

Konohana Sakuya Hime & Kaguya Hime
(excerpts from "Sacred Mountains of the World,"
by Edwin Baldwin, University of California Press, 1997)

"The name 'Fuji' probably comes from an Ainu word meaning "fire" or "deity of fire." Obviously a god of great power, the mountain had to be placated. In A.D. 806 a local official built a shrine near the foot of the volcano to keep it from erupting. The priests assigned the task of pacifying the mountain apparently neglected their duties because Fuji erupted with great violence in 864, causing much damage in a nearby province. The governor of that province blamed the priests for failing to perform the proper rites and constructed another shrine in his own territory, where he could make sure everything was done correctly. A fiery god of the mountain became at a later date the more peaceful Shinto goddess of Mount Fuji - - Konohana Sakuya Hime -- the 'Goddess of Flowering Trees.' Today she is worshipped at the shrine originally built for the older deity.

"A romantic story, attributed to the fifth century AD, explains the eruptions of the volcano after its emergence. One day an old couple with no children found a beautiful baby girl in a bamboo grove near the foot of Mount Fuji. They named her Kaguya Hime, or 'She Who Lights up the Area.' The girl grew up to become the most beautiful woman in the region, attracting the attention of the local governor, who made her his wife. After a number of years of blissful marriage, she told her husband that she was, in fact, the Immortal Lady of Mount Fuji and that she was returning to the Palace of the Immortals on top to the sacred mountain. To alleviate his distress, she gave him a magic mirror in which to see her image and then she vanished. Unable to bear life without her, he followed her up to the crater of Fuji. Finding no trace of her and having nowhere else to go, he clutched the mirror to his breast and leapt off a precipice. The love that burst from his heart set fire to the mirror, and the smoke that rose from it is the smoke that used to issue from the summit of Fuji itself [now extinct]. A famous verse from the 12th century commemorates the sublimity of the official's love for the goddess of the sacred mountain:

      Trailing down the wind
      The smoke of Fuji
      vanishes into space
      till nothing lingers
      of my love's deep fires.

Gracefully walking though the mists, Kaguya Hime appears form time to time as an elusive representative of the immortals believed to dwell on the summit of Fuji."

"Impressed by its purity of form and extraordinary height, Buddhists found in Fuji a sublime symbol of meditation. The word they used to describe its summit, 'zenjo', is a Buddhist term for the flawless state of perfect concentration. Just as the peak of a mountain soars above the mists that gather in the valleys below, so a person in meditation rises above the passions and illusions that obscure the vision of ordianry people. The Japanese say that the clouds that cover the tops of other peaks only curl around the foot of Fuji. Its summit, a lofty place of contemplation, provides an attractive sanctuary for the deities, who dwell there free from the sorrow that trouble the world below."

    * * *

"The fire ceremony [marking the end of the mountain climbing season [on August 26] has its origins in the earliest known myth about Konohana Sakuya Hime, the principal goddess of Mount Fuji. According to the 'Kojiki', the great 8th-century AD compilation of Japanese mythology, she married a god who grew suspicious of her when she became pregnant shortly after their wedding. To prove her fidelity to her husband, she entered a benign bower and miraculously gave birth to a son, unscathed by the surrounding flames. The [fire] ceremony at Fuji-Yoshida recalls this story as a means of protecting the town from fire and promoting easy childbirth among women.

"Konohana Sakuya Hime originally had little or no connection with Mount Fuji. Sometime between the 14th and 16th centuries, the belief arose among the people of the region that she would protect them from eruptions of the volcano as she had her newborn son from the flames of the burning bower. During the Tokugawa period, between 1600 and 1868, the Fuji-ko [Fuji mountain-climbing] movement confirmed Konohana Sakuya Hime as the principal goddess of the sacred mountain. She is now the central deity in major Shinto shrines at the base of the volcano and on the rim of its crater. Fuji-ko members worship her at altars in their homes, and each group lights a torch in her honor at the fire ceremony of Fuji-Yoshida."

*Title poem from the "Man'yoshu," the oldest collection of Japanese poetry, compiled in the 7th century AD.
